Filled with our new collection, Rouenneries, the box was brimming with five yards of each floral print we designed. Old reds, dusty pinks, natural grey and tea stained grounds - all very French General and very simple. I really love it - now if I could just cut into it and start making something special! The collection will be making it's debut at the Philadelphia Quilt Show next week - and then shipping to stores in this fall. We'll be carrying my favorite designs on-line and in the shop also. Just to get the ball rolling - and because I am dying to see what people design with our new collection - I am going to cut up some scraps of fabric and send out a couple boxes of samples. Please leave a comment about your ideas and we'll pick out a couple of names at the end of the week. Bonne Chance!

Wow - those fabrics are so inspiring! I was just thinking about making a quilt and what I'd like to make...I think those fabrics in a simple 9 patch on point with beautiful alternate blocks (maybe in the gray) would be amazing! Some beautiful applique in the border - all very simple and beautiful! Can't wait for Fall and your fabric to hit the shops!!

I have been so interested in this look lately as it reminds me of ladies in art salons - whatever those are. I think a turban draped with your fabric would be so cute for lounging in the garden or with a casual jeans outfit.

ReplyDeleteI envision a medallion quilt with an appliqued center (perhaps a large fleur-de-lis) surrounded by big, random blocks of fabric to show off the prints and stripes. I would want to make it look like it had been around for many years.
Wonderful fabrics! I think that if I ever had the privelege of having any scraps I would combine them with some of my vintage French linen and lace to make a real memento of my time in France.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I think I would make some small pillows out of them and fill an old wooden bowl with them. I might even silk screen some designs on canvas and then add a ruffle out of the new fabric & put lavender in the pillows.

ReplyDeleteSince I love the French Reds and want to have them part of my everyday life. I would enjoy seeing these patterns in a tote or two. I would combine them with some vintage towels that are monogrammed. Also pillows and bolsters. The marriage of antique and new textiles working harmoniously together makes my heart happy.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful fabric patterns! How satisfying to see your designs made tactile. I would make a tea cozy or two with different patterns on the outside and inside. My tea cozies tie (so they stay on while pouring tea), so I would use vintage ribbons and maybe add some old lace, if it didn't take away from the pattern.

ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that your new fabrics will be available by fall. I have been slowly planning what is tongue in cheek called my "girly girl" room. Just a little room to sneak away to and be surrounded in my vintage fabrics and laces. I have in my mind's eye to use your fabrics to make pillows for the day bed. I am dying to make a pillow with unbleached "manta" (it's the Mexican equivelent to the unbleach linen, flax, cotton, everyday work fabrics every culture has) combined with the FG's new fabrics!! :) I also think that combining your traditional French fabrics with the traditional embroidered floral fabrics of the women in the state of Oaxaca would be nothing short of incredible!!!

I made one for my own, and it both keeps the screen clean (screens seem to attract dust and random gunk from the air), and artfully hide what is otherwise a big black shiny lump in my living room. The pattern would depend on the fabric.

ReplyDeleteI think it would be fun to play with those fabrics and apply them to an old lampshade frame, maybe patch them together, maybe not, but definitely experiemnt with ruching strips of the fabric, manipulating it to see what happens and apply it at the edge of the lampshade as a "fringe."

Félicitations!... on your new & yummy fabric line from Moda!!!! I am an avid quilter/sewer and fabric collector...modern, antique, and vintage. I have enough to keep me busy for a lifetime. However, that does not keep me from acquiring even more to fondle and use...lol! I have a wonderful book on antique quilts of Provence..mainly in the wholecloth and boutis method which is done with only 1 or 2 fabrics in large yardage amounts...and it looks like there's more than a few prints of yours that would be stunning sewn in this manner. As for the scraps you are offering in your giveaway, I would do a nice sized quilt block (used as 1 of many maison themed blocks quilt or as a pillow front)and applique a 'Maison Rouge'...one with a distinctively high & steep french roof top-chateau style!!

The quilt was designed and made up of several dresses my grandmother had made for my mother when she was a little girl. In honor of Mother's Day, the box filled with beautiful fabric samples would make a sweet tablecloth, or apron, don't you think?

I have been wanting to make a small blanket that my husband and I could use for picnics. I want it to be something I could really go to town with quilting, and embroidery, adding some of my vintage buttons because of the smaller size. First thoughts - summer throw blanket for a summer picnic in our backyard...tablecloth for dining room table with large red border...sachet pillows for our daughter's (and my!) beds...canopy over an outdoor day bed for an afternoon nap outside in summer...sewn into triangles for a banner for our daughter's room...as scalloped edging for kitchen shelves...large pieces (duvet cover, flat sheets) pegged to a line billowing huge in a summer breeze...ahhhh...can't wait to get some of the material later this year!

ReplyDeleteI would sew a simple miniature quilt, 4 patches I think, with half inch squares, hand quilt and antique it. Then frame it in a gilded frame on a linen mat. To finish it off I'd add the poem "Infant Joy", the first lines read "I have no name; I am but two days old. What shall I call thee? I happy am; Joy is my name. Sweet joy befall thee!"
ReplyDeleteI am going to retire after 30 years of teaching in a wonderful public school. I have taught many of my kindergarten classes about quilting and for many years each student has made an individual quilt and gave it away to a baby or toddler in the hospital. Children can learn so much through textile projects. I would use this fabric to make a small drawstring bag for each child in my class. We all need a place to keep our special treasures!

Hi, stopped in on you last Friday. I have put together my bracelet and I love it. With the fabric scraps (that match my home perfectly) I would love to make fabric flowers and some yoyos. I would add anttigue buttons to the middle. The flowers would be added to my paper art decor projects. Added to a throw pillow and if there were any left over I would make a corsage for my denim jacket.

I have been "hooked" since reading and seeing book,"French Inspired Jewelery". I don't sew, I don't quilt, however I would use the scraps to make lovely beads to mix with vintage beads and buttons. ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous fabrics! I bought a quilt pattern that used them - but only because it was a good pattern for someone who can't stand cutting up gorgeous prints. Then I realized the fabric in the pattern was really starting to grow on me and finally tracked it down. Now that I've seen it close up I like it even better . . . but not for lamp shades or sachets or dishtowels or even a quilt. I see a summer wardrobe - skirts and pants and blouses that all mix and match! (I'm sorry - I think everyone else is limited in the scope of their vision) I'm devastated that these fabrics only come in cotton. Some of the turkey reds ought to come in a wool challis and the ivory and taupe fabrics in linen and silk as well as cotton so that the whole ensemble can transition into fall. I'm just lucky that Moda hasn't allowed you to do anything like this - my eyes and imagination are definitely bigger than my sewing budget.

Being in France, I'm a little bit late compared to my american friends who have the same passion for lovely fabrics. I just haven't enough words to describe my feelings facing those extraordinary fabrics inspired by French rouenneries. Of course I've immediately ordered some pieces in USA and I'm now waiting to have them. The choice was terribly difficult as every piece is wonderful !!! Thanks for the pleasure you give us.
