I've had so much going on around here that I almost forgot to put up pictures of our new Fall 2010 fabric line, Maison de Garance. This collection grew out of a conversation Cheryl, the Moda design director, and I had last summer while sitting in her room at Chateau Dumas, overlooking the fields below. Cheryl pulled out a brown and white transfer ware plate she had bought at the flea market in Toulouse and we were both enamoured with the deep chocolate color -and thought it would be the perfect compliment to the old French General reds. Turns out - it is a beautiful combination. Maison de Garance is a collection of fabrics filled with our classic reds, rich browns and a natural tea stain color...and the leaves are green! I am just crazy about some of the florals that are embellished with color - I can't decide if I like the reproduction or the original better - that's a good sign!To celebrate our upcoming Moda group, I would love to send out some bundles - to add to your stash pile! ReplyDeleteI am going to take the "bee" design and make several "frenchy bee" pillows with ruffles (contrasting fabric?) for my brown couch and the gorgeous red and cream design will make a wonderful tablecloth for an adjacent table.
OK...it's like you got inside my head and used all my favorite colors and shades. I am seeing my workroom sprinkled with these fabrics and oh yes my vintage dress form (known as Madeline Grayce)wearing hand made Maison de Garance flowers!

ReplyDeleteLove this line! The bee will be stretched across canvas and framed in a chippy black flea market frame to hang in my dining room. I'll hang a French-inspred black, cherry and mustard tassel off the side for extra oohmph. The other beautiful fabrics will become the inserts for my builder grade closet bi-fold panels in all my bedrooms. I'll also use the fabrics along the bottom of my store-bought drapes using fabric glue.

I would make a medallion quilt with lots of fussy cut piecing and appliqued borders.

And wouldn't it be wonderful to surprise my husband with a picnic lunch in a furoshiki - and then use it as a mini tablecloth!

ReplyDeleteFor some Christmas Gifts this year I am planning on buying some Antique Teapots (& tea cups) and blending some of my own Rose Petal & Lavender Black tea to package with them, and I think that Making some Teapot Cozies out of this fabric would be super pretty! :)
How lovely! What popped in my head immediately was an unbatted quilt to cover my pseudo-French Provincial table, with natural linen napkins hand-embroidered with the little bee in the corner in chocolate brown. And chair seat covers with skirts for my 8 chairs, each in a different fabric in the line!

I will make a tablecloth for the picnic table that I use for my portable 'art studio' and I will make cushions for the seats. I may even use it to line the picnic basket that I take out on the boat. The colors are sumptuous & I am terrifically inspired by the bee motif (although I confess this might have a little something to do with the book about Napoléon & Josephine I've been reading). Ideas are swirling for something I could make with the bee. I'm going to have to find some of this fabric to play with to be sure!

I have used the Rouenneries fabrics in my bedroom for valances, shams, and a dresser scarf. Maison de Garance would be perfect to recover my grandmother's antique rocker which is a peaceful place for evening reading. Thanks for designing such lovely fabrics.

ReplyDeleteI love the way the French eat outside so I am thinking I will make table linens - I think placemats with the large floral shown as the centre and a crazy-pieced border using the beautiful linen-look solids from all your fabric lines. ReplyDeletebrown is always a good idea...it just is and with the reds...perfect...it needs to hand somewhere in a barn....a very chic barn with very long windows and tall tall rafter ceilings...and it needs to drape across the corner of the bed on the floor of the barn that is also a living space in the country.....oh....that's my country space....whoa....i guess i need that to chic up our little barn in the country with the cows licking and scratching on the outside...and the bees buzzing overhead...and the not quite so tall windows....can it do all those things? what am i saying, of course it can! just the fix i've been looking for! oh, and can it stiffle the "fragrance" of the cows that wafts through the not quite so tall windows on a warm dewy evening? even if it can't do THAT, it would be a lovely addition to a great space that could use a little french chic...with a twist...uh oh...please do not be insulted at the thought of your oh-so-chic fabric hanging in a barn...it's in a really pretty rolling hill setting...and the cows offer lots of bucolic beauty... along with their "fragrance"....and it does have a bath and kitchenette....very very important when you are miles and miles from such luxuries....would love...LOVE...to be considered for your kind giveaway...it's needed here....bad. sharon at farmand frufru.blogspot.com

Hi, I would love to make some hand made albums to pass down to my kids when they get old enough o pass down to! Anything left over, I would use to make some journals to give to my gorgeous friends who are mothers of the friends of my daughter (all our kids are in kindergarten). A lot of these girls are migrants and have come from all over the globe. I am showing them how to sew and quilt, and we are sharing so much. This would be a wonderful way to say thank you for their amazing friendship.

ReplyDeleteWow, so beautiful! I thought I couldn't love anything as much as the reds, but I do! I have a collection of brown transferware that I have displayed on an old pine hutch. I haven't been able to find any fabric that matched the old look well enough until now. My room incorporates all these colors, but without the splash that some cushions and napkins would make! :) Great addition to your store!

I just gave away a quilt I made with reds, tans and creams, and I knew I would make another one because I loved the color combos. Maison de Garance is absolutely gorgeous. I can't wait for it to be in the stores! French General has become my favorite fabric line of all time. Keep up the great work. Jo Hand
ReplyDeleteHi There !I`m Sally from England and I have a company tht hires out French and English crockery for weddings and parties and so on .Right at this very moment I have my kitchen table covered in French General fat Quarters just about to make a huge beautiful wall hanging to adorn a marquee.I would love some of this new absolutely stunning fabric to make some bunting to go all around the edges of the marquee! I think it would look absolutely fantastic .I`m going to make table runners too .I`ll send you a photo after the wedding ! Thanks for the chance and I love the website ,it`s very inspiratonal and your books got me sewing -now I`ve started I can`t stop! Looking forward to some more blue colours too !

ReplyDeleteI love the bee in that red with a honey colored background. I can see that, all by itself, on a footstool. The footstool would have it's curvy legs stained walnut; they would look like dark chocolate - yum, my favorite! A delightful combination; honey and chocolate. The floral is beautiful as well with its sinuous red vines. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the line! I have to go - I'm hungry now.

ReplyDeleteI'm still living on a tight budget. I may love to look at the overstuffed couches in furniture boutiques and the distressed French farm table in the antique store but we've got to pay off my husband's grad school loans and, well, the furniture of my dreams is going to stay in my dreams for a while. So I get my design fix in the details. I love the colors of the new fabrics and they would be perfect for throw pillows for my cheap-but-nice couch. And the remnants would be perfect for a little tote bag for me!

ReplyDeleteTo me, those beautiful fabrics would make a lovely master bedroom ensemble! Since I don't have a master bedroom, I think they would also make a wonderful quilt to keep on the couch.
ReplyDeleteI am working on an English paper pieced quilt with all of the French Genral Fabrics and would love to have the new line to complete the look. I absolutely adore the two original lines, have pre-orderd the third and to have some of the fourth would send me over the moon! The fabrics work so well in one inch hexagons-they are divine!! So, they have a home waiting for them!

ReplyDeleteI am trying to create a fabric headboard to soften our gray concrete walls. Those are really lovely colors and would go really well with my antique steamer trunk.

ReplyDeleteWhat glorious colors and elegant design! I visualize the wallhanging as having a background that is pieced in mossy, muted forest colors with glimmers of golden sunlight patches accented with the French bees. Carefully contrasting and expanding on this, I'll swirl appliquéd scrolls that suggest the tangle of grapes vines in the Fall, the turrets and spikes of a French chateau, and the rich red wine colors of the florals. Overall, I hope to create this fantasy with all the rich colors and appliqued detail of a tapestry, but, by weaving the background and foreground together, make them seem to come forward and then recede - creating the mysterious feeling of an early morning fog that hides, then reveals, all the integral parts, making the viewer work a bit to see the entire picture. Of course, the beautiful florals have to be woven in and out of the field, to blend the outer portions of the wallhanging together, and the border must be elegantly appliquéd scrolls and bars to resemble the wrought iron gates, doors and shutters of the chateau. I can't wait to start drawing! This beautiful fabric is really inspiring!
