A Whole New Job
Everyday, I find myself thinking of a whole new job for myself. Right now, I want to become a Color Linguist. Yesterday, after running downtown and finding (yet another!!) old stash of millinery goods, I wanted to become a hat designer. When I see Alexis Bittar's jewelry at Nordstrom, I want to become a jewelry designer. A couple of months ago I wanted to work at the Magic Castle here in Hollywood. Visiting old friends in New York, I wanted to become an artist with a loft in Brooklyn. It's a curse, I want to try so many things. When I drive by Joe Blasco Makeup Center on Hillhurst, that's right, I want to become a make-up artist. The list goes on and on. Then I got an e-mail from Moda yesterday saying "When are we going to see the new fabric and products for the Fall line?" and I thought - Oh yeah, that's right, I'm a fabric designer right now! I love it.
You have a great job with your amazing shop and designing for Moda!! but I do the same thing - I get so excited about how many cool and fun things there are out there and want to try everything!!
ReplyDeleteI am like that too. I joke with my friends that I have creative ADD because one day I am a jewelry designer, the next day a painter, a potter, a doll maker, a print maker, a knitter, a photographer, and on and on.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to be able to do so many things, I know you'll agree. It makes life ever so much more interesting.
There are so many interesting and exciting things in the world to try - I'm much the same - one day I want to design houses, the next be a chef, then write books, and I've always thought being a spy would be fun.
ReplyDeleteI just don't get these people who say that life is boring.

aren't we fortunate
ReplyDeletethat we do not REALLY need
to decide
what we want to be
when you grow up...
:-)
...we can just stay forever young!
{{ what...
what...
we cannot stay young forever?
what...
don't tell me that... }}
I tend to want to live everywhere I visit, specially if friends live near. So I am still contemplating moving to Santa Fe, NM; Martha's Vineyard, MA; Calistoga, CA; Glen Arbor, MI or emigrating to Manly, NSW, Australia. I guess it's a wonderful thing to be so enthused about new things to do and places to be!
ReplyDelete...and I log onto the Warp and the Weft and want to be Kaari Marie!
ReplyDeleteJust received your home sewing book and it truly is like a yummy little french pastry..We now have three of your publications in our home..Love them all..Louise
I catch myself saying "when I grow up..." all the time. It is only recently that I have started to become aware of doors that are now closed forever. I'm pretty sure at this point I'll never be part of a famous circus act. But maybe - when I grow up.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,
Karima
Well besides "creative ADD" like
ReplyDeleteCottage Way of Life said I think I read somewhere that you are a Libra. Now I don't put a lot of stock in all of that but, I'm a Libra too and I thought I was the only one who wanted to be everything. Well, at least everything that entails beauty and creativity!!
You're right it is a curse...But at least you already do something you love, something that satisfies you creativity hunger. But what about those who don't have the necessary conditions and when they think of a job, they see not something that helps them leave a creative trace in their lives and in the lives of others, but a struggle to have the bare necessities? It's frustrating :(
ReplyDeleteawesome, dude.
ReplyDeletewas feeling a bit of the same lately...along with a little bit of, um, whats my current title? wait a sec, what job am i doing now?
i think moving to hollywood was one of your best moves, don't you?
