Just received the samples from our new line, Rural Jardin, with Moda. Filled with shades of woad, chanvre and rouge this collection has some of the prettiest stripes and checks - many reproduced from 19th century French textiles. We named it Rural Jardin because many of the floral prints reminded me of the old French gardens I see throughout the South of France - the vines and fantasy flowers.
I've got all sorts of yardage in the shop now - so if you just can't wait till Spring 2010, pop by on a Monday and you can see the full line. I am getting ready to head to Houston for the Quilt Market this week where Moda will be showing all of their new Spring fabric collections. Most people go to market to sell their designs or show their product - I go just to see old and new friends - and for the Moda party! Moda puts on a grand soiree during market where they invite all of their designers and buyers - a good time is had by all. To celebrate our new collection, I'll send out a box or two of fabric samples - let me know what kind of striped summer project you might be sewing - and hopefully you'll get a head start! Merci!

Those are really comfortable colors. I can't wait to make a bag, maybe mailman style, shoulder bag... I also want to make a quilt that every family member is going to love. Comfy blanket type. Binder cover with some applique and nested basket, etc...

ReplyDeleteMy daughter and I talk often of the dream trip we will take one day to a quiet beach with ocean water the most beautiful blue ever! We would spend all day on this beach with our books, sun glasses and flip flops!! Of course we would need a great looking bag with a drawstring at the top to carry them in!! I can not imagine these in anything but the stipes in Rural Jardin!!

I'd sew some seat cushions for my "square inch garden" (aka mini balcony), new pillow covers for the sofa (gasp - I still have some I bought at IKEA!) & a little simple quilt to lay on top of my antique chest.

OMG!!! The colors and patterns are DIVINE. I can so see a pillow or quilt in my living room using these fabrics. I certainly wish I was close so I could come by for an in-person view, but rest assured I'll have it as a must see on my next visit to Cali. Keeping my fingers crossed that I will be the lucky recipient of this drawing.

Your new collection reminds me of those great beach "chairs" my grandparents had, the ones that had fabric attached to the folding wooden frame and an attached piece of fabric which sat on the sand. We'd take them to Oceanside for our annual beach holiday.

ReplyDeleteI can't decide if I'd rather make some fun kids' clothes out of your samples, or if I'd rather make some pillows to spruce up the decor! I tend to go the way of kids' clothes since the kids see fabric come in and start pinning it up on kid-sized dress forms before I have a chance to tell them what I'd envisioned doing with it. I can just see some great boys' shirts out of the stripes, or some great matching skirts or ruffle pants for the sisters! Or hats -- gotta have matching hats when the fabric is just calling out to be made into something to show it off!

I'd use the soft, gentle reds to warm up my space at work. The stripes and checks would be crisp and clean as pillows on our shared charcoal grey couch - and some pillows would make it much more comfy :)

ReplyDeleteLove your fabrics AND your books. Is there any better project than one that includes stripes AND florals. Those florals/tickings look perfect for a summer quilt that you'd use to curl up with on a cool summer evening in the "sleeping room" of a cottage. You know, the kind of room that has big screens that open out onto the water and you lie in bed and listen to the gentle lapping of the water as you fall asleep? Just a light cover to keep you warm ... yes, that's what these stripes would be used for ... a very special quilt ... I can see it in my mind's eye now!

I could see making a new umbrella cover by using several of the fabrics as a patchwork of glorious color in my country garden. or even new chair cover with each one being different!!!!! or even piecing strip together to make new curtains for my rustic gazebo . When I look at it I first think of little boy bermudas, don't ask me why..of course my boys are getting a little too old to wear what I like. A quilt would be what I would make and it would most definitely have churn dash blocks in it. It is a great collection, congratulations!

Not sure, but I like to make quilted objects, useful things, like bags, notebooks, cosies for stuff, so maybe a bottle holder to keep your drink cool in the heat of summer. Not that we get much heat in Scotland, but hey, you never know!
