All in a Row Blog Hop

Bonjour!
I am writing to you from the middle of the Navajo Nation...where I am on my yearly adventure to find old Navajo rugs!  I woke up as early as I could to send in my post all about an exciting new book and hop.
As many of you know, I am a NOVICE quilter...so when Jenifer Keltner, of Martingale Books, rang up and asked if I would like to be involved with their new book, All in a Row, I immediately called on quilt master Penny Tucker.  Some of you may know Penny, as she has been working with the French General design team since we started designing quilts and writing patterns.  There is no one better to have by your side than someone who has been in the quilt world for the past twenty-five years.  Penny rang up Cheryl who has been one of our piecer's for many years and together they came up with our row - using my favorite pattern of all time, the drunkard's path block.

So here is our row - all made out of French General scraps!  It ended up looking a bit like a piece of cream rick-rack running through red blocks.  I love how it turned out and think it would look great in multiple colors on a quilt!
For more information on this new book, please visit the Martingale site.
Be sure to check out the "It's a Beauty of a Contest" event and GREAT PRIZES, from February 1 through March 15, sponsored by Moda Fabrics and Martingale. For more on the contest and prizes, click here.  And if you want to be entered to win a free copy of the book, comment below and be sure to mention two rows shown on the Martingale site (link above) that you'd like to make once you get the book. And please, be sure to include your e-mail address in your comment.  We will choose a handful of winners - for books and French General scraps!
And...if you are interested in seeing my travels through the Navajo Nation...please follow us on instagram over the next week...I am posting daily about the trading posts, the weavers and all of the beauty to be found on a vast stretch of land between Arizona and New Mexico.
Merci!

  1. Your lovely row adds a sweet bit of curviness :-) This row quilt is so fun to see and I hope to make one. I love the rows from Kathy Schmitz with her snowman included and I love Janet Clare's rabbits. and then I also love the row including Minick and Simpson's sand pails....there are a lot of favorites :-) I would really love to win a copy of this. Thank you for sharing and for participating in the designing!

  2. Such a fun book, with so many rows that will teach us some new techniques. I would like to see your row made with scrappy, bright colors. Living in an area that is experiencing snow and cold, I would probably start with Kathy Schmitz's snowmen row and Carrie Nelson's house row --- but those are only the start.

  4. I have been reading some of the comments left by others and just when I think to myself, yes, that is my favourite row, I am reminded of another one that I really liked! I find it so hard to commit to one or two....but I think that my number one pick is yours, Kaari and your idea of a number of rows with different colours...maybe reversed with light ground and dark pattern would be so striking! I also liked the rabbits that Janet Clare did. With Easter hopping our way, I think that would make a great table runner. And Bren's heart garland is gorgeous and with Valentine's Day coming up - what a wonderful gift that would make! It has been fun seeing all the creativity of all the designers involved in this project. Everyone's interpretation of the challenge was so different. It goes without saying that to win the book would be a fabulous way to pass the winter season...so with fingers crossed!
