All month you can follow Moda fabric designers and receive a pattern for a 9" quilt block which will eventually make up a beautiful friendship quilt! Today is our day, as well as Lynn from Kansas City Troubles and Kate Spain...be sure to pop over and see my friends too!
Once I start quilting, I will try to make the Moda Friendship Quilt...because I love the idea of having Sofia's friends sign the middle of the blocks and then using them to make up a keepsake quilt for her.
Once I start quilting, I will try to make the Moda Friendship Quilt...because I love the idea of having Sofia's friends sign the middle of the blocks and then using them to make up a keepsake quilt for her.
Lissa Alexander sent us all a selection of blocks to choose from and I chose one that reminded me of old French tiles...big surprise there!
In fact, lately I have been dreaming of France and planning our next Chateau Getaway....it's something I do when I am looking for an excuse not to work...wait it is work - right!? This summer, Amy Butler is joining us for two weeks at the chateau in the South of France, to inspire and teach us all about her sense of color! If you would like to come along Summer 2014, please let us know - our waiting list has already begun!
Enough about France...back to the Quilt Along!
Using our new collection, La Belle Fleur, Jody helped me sew up our friendship block and then went a little crazy sewing up a few other fun ideas.... This new group of fabric is filled with the faded reds and pinks that were so often used in 19th century French prints, along with the warm blues and soft teals.
Here's a fun project using up the scraps from your block...a Scrap Book that you can fill with all of your favorite bits and pieces from each collection. I'm big on scraps - in fact, I am thinking of making a fabric scrapbook for each collection I have designed for Moda....just to keep history of our 15 different collections! Sandy Gervais told me to start this years ago, and I failed to listen to her...so now I have to do some catch up work!
And this is our new quilt pattern, La Belle Fleur...using a Carpenter Wheel pattern...reinterpreted by French General, this pattern has two colorways - something for everyone!
We're giving away a bunch of precuts to some lucky winners, so please leave us a comment about your favorite fabric collection from French General over the past five years. Here's a list of the collections to jog your memory:
Rouenneries (and do you know how to pronounce it!?)
Rural Jardin
Lumiere de Noel
Petite Ecole
Maison de Garance
Pom Pom de Paris
Fa La La La
Panier de Fleurs
Rouenneries Deux
Petite Odile
Chateau Rouge

La Belle Fleur
Josephine (coming Fall 2013)
Le Bouquet Francais (coming Spring 2014)
Thanks for playing along and be sure to join our networking site of creative friends at www.the-art-of-craft.com - we would love to see what you are up to!
You can also follow us on instagram at frenchgeneral...for a daily peek into what inspires us!
And have you heard the BIG news....French General is now open Tuesday through Saturday from 12-5pm! Come see us next time you are in the neighborhood....

Lovely fabrics and block. The fabric scraps book is darling. Wonderful hop. Creative Hearts are Happy Hearts...
The rosey colors in Chateau Rouge are my favorite!
Great block and swatch book idea. I like La Belle Fleur.
slrdowney at hotmail dot com
Fa La La is my favorite because it has green. Then I also like everything else that is red.
Gorgeous block! Love to see the inspiration behind it, too.
I love all your fabrics, but Chateau Rouge is my favorite!
Thanks,
Sandy A
I like all but La Belle Fleur is a favorite.
Being a newbie quilter, finding your fabric and instantly falling in love, I havent stopped making blocks with your fabric. I love and still love the original rouenneries. The quilts are so gorgeous (well, they are all gorgeous quilts when using your fabric!!) and Love the petite odile--quilt too :) I love that you can mix and match pieces together and they all look so fabulous. I just got my la fluer fat qtr brick and I cant wait to dive in. I am excited for your new Christmas line and I am over the moon to see you have 2 new collections coming out in the next year!!!!!! Whooo Hoo!!!! Thank you so very much for inspiring so many of us with your fabric.
Merci! I like Esprit de Noel.
I like the soft hues of your fabrics but my favorite would be Rural Jardin. I love blue and have red and green in my home also. All of the soft colors coming out remind me of spring which it is not outside now. Several inches of snow fell last night. But we have warmer days to look forward to.
My vote goes to Maison de Garance. I like all your fabrics.
I definitely love "Petite Ecole". I have slowly picked up fat quarters her and there to eventually make a quilt for my daughter. Love all the French General fabrics in general. Thanks for the chance for the giveaway.
My favorite is Maison de Garance, however, I haven't found a French General fabric yet that I don't like. I'm hoping I will be a lucky winner today :)
Thanks---I like your block also--anxious to make it.
Verna (fatsocat3@comcast.net)
Love French General. Beautiful!!!
OMG, what is my favorite collection from French General? I don’t dream in technicolor. I dream in French General. Picking one is very hard. I guess I’d say Rouenneries Deux followed closely by Rouenneries and Fa La La La to make me happy.
I really like Pom Pom de Paris. It is very pretty!
How about ALL OF THEM!! but if I have to choose, maybe Chateau Rouge, but seriously, ALL OF THEM!!!!!
I just love Rural Jardin
I have a selection of Pom Pom de Paris as my first project in my new sewing room! Love all of your collections but the pretty yellow/brown in this collection was such a departure from other quilts that I have made! Thank you so much for a chance at this giveaway!
Choosing just one is very difficult, but I suppose it would be Rouenneries and Rouenneries Deux. But I'm just starting a quilt with Chateau Rouge and I'm loving it too.
My favorite was Lumiere de Noel. Lusciousness.
It is so hard to pick a favorite. I guess today I would pick Lumiere de Noel because I am almost finished making a quilt with those fabrics and I LOVE it!!!
Thanks for the chance to win.
chateau rough is my fave!!
I made a purse out of Maison de Garance.
My favorite line is Lumiere de Noel. Can't wait to get started on your block. Thanks for the chance to win.
I think my favourite is Chateau Rouge although it is very hard to choose!
Oh my, to see Amy Butler would be a dream, but not on a retirees budget. I have bought almost all your lines, and Lumiere de Noel is my favorite. Love Pom Pom de Paris too! Thank you for you wonderful block and a great giveaway.
Rural Jardin is wonderful--Gail
Chateau Rouge is a collection I like esp. the red/off white pieces. I totally love the French tiles you used in your block. Thanks for the directions for the block and also for the scrapbook cover.
Ohhhh !!! I love the Fa La La La collection. The colors, the words... just love them :)
Great block! My favorite collection so far is Rural Jardin. I made a wonderful quilt for my sister with this line, with just a wee bit of the red to make it all come to life. All your fabrics are delightful. Thanks for the chance to win!
Rural Jardin is my all time favorite! Thanks for the lovely block.
Thanks for the great block pattern - I'm also drawn to tile patterns. I have loved all the FG collections, and have purchased several bundles, but my absolute favorite would have to be Maison de Garance.
Ohhh I cannot choose just one. So two will do - Petite Ecole and Esprit de Noel! Looking forward to your two new lines also! thank yoU!
I think my very favorite is Petite Ecole but I honestly love them all!
Rouenneries is still my ultimate favorite line.........not just of yours but of any line out there... I just love it. Thanks for the chance to win. Your block is wonderful.............might use it to make my daughters senior graduation quilt........May is coming so quickly.
I love the Rural Jardin collection. All are beautiful.
I love all of them and own amost all of them. They are a "have to have" collection. You block is wonderful and not easy. Making me think is a good thing. Love the Carpenters Wheel.
I bought the CHATEAU ROUGE Charm Pack a couple of months ago! I just couldn't resist that grouping of colors! I have yet to decide what to do with the charm pack, but it is cozily hidden away in my stash!
It is so hard to choose I love all you fabrics. They are so soft and five me a warm feeling. But guess I'll say Chateau Rouge for now.
Diann
Great block! Love your fabrics! I think Chateau Rouge is my favorite, I have a couple charm packs of it patiently waiting to be made into a new bag :)
My favorite collection is Rounneries Deux
Your block is beautiful, thank you for sharing. My favorite fabric is Rouenneries Deux! I think it is just so feminine and pretty.
Maison de Garance
My favorite collection is Mason de Garance. I have made two lap quilts as gifts from that line. But I love them all.
I'm new to quilting, and am not familiar with your collections yet, but I'm sure that will change very soon. Thanks for the introduction and chance to win.
There are so many beautiful fabrics in each line, but I remember I really liked Rural Jardin and Lumiere de Noel.
I love the Pom Pom de Paris collection...thank you for the chance to win some fabric!!
Tami
tamiquilts at att dot net
My favorite is La Belle Fleur. I like the softer looking tones of the fabrics. Especially the blue. Thanks!
Rouenneries Deux...I love it! Still saving some. Your reds are the best!
Chateau Rouge is my favorite.
I'll pick my favorite as Esprit de Noel.
Your block is beautiful, thanks for sharing your talent. One of my favorite collections is "Rouenneries Deux".
I couldn't resist purchasing a Layer Cake of "Chateau Rouge" about a month ago and am still searching for the perfect pattern for it. LOVE it!
I am a big fan of Pom Pom de Paris. Looks like I am not alone there :)
I love Petite Ecole and Maison de Garance, but all of your collections are wonderful!
I truly love all your collections, but Rouenneries is one of my very favorites. Thanks for a fabulous giveaway.
La Belle Fleur, I just love this new line. Thanks for the chance.
My favorite is Chateau Rouge.
Rouenneries is my absolute favorite French General line--it was so unique and wonderfully original. Closely followed by Panier de Fleures. Thanks for the chance at the giveaway.
I love rural jardin. But all of it is so pretty.
I love the Lumiere de Noel collection!!!
I think my favorite has to be Rouenneries - I just flipped when I saw it in my LQS and had to buy lots! (Then I had to learn how to pronounce it.) When Pom Pom de Paris came out I was smitten again! Couldn't get enough of it. Love those pinks and yellows with a touch of French General Red! Love your designs, love your colors, love your style - it makes me smile!
I love esprit de Noel one because it has all those lovely soft reds & 2 because my husbands name is Noel
My favorite (so far!) is Lumiere de Noel. I honestly never liked the color red before seeing this collection. I thought red was too "in your face" and not soft or subtle enough for the kind of quilts I like to make. But you showed me that red can be lovely, lacy looking, and festive! I like your friendship block too!
My favorite is still the original rouenneries. I am glad you have maintained that original feel and adding additional colors as each new line came out. Thanks for the opportunity to win.
Your fabrics are wonderful! I love so many, but Chateau Rouge is my current favorite. Keep up the beautiful work!
Just love the Rural Jardin! One of those fabrics that you just hate to cut! :)
I just love Maison de Garance :) thanks for a chance to win - laurie
llsbaskets at comcast dot net
Rouenneries Deux is my favorite. In fact, I have a project waiting on me now!
My favorite TODAY is FaLaLaLa because thats the fabric I'm creating with right now. Thanks for sharing.
how can you pick a favorite? I love them all, and never have had any!
Pom Pom the Paris, love the birds fabric, and those pinks!
Terrific giveaway, thanks for the chance to win!
I'm excited about this quilt along, and I love your idea to make the block center's special for a keepsake quilt. Ok -I have a bit of a tie - I really like the woven fabrics in the Maison de Garance b/c I'm obsessed with stripes and plaids -but... I enjoyed the Petite Odile line b/c it is very sweet. Thank you for a chance to win!
Rural Jardin! Love, love, love the plaids and stripes!!
Luminiere Noel
Bet I spelled it wrong!
Petite Ecole is my favorite but will be happy to win anything by French General! Thanks for the freebies!
I like your creativity to make the block matching the French tiles!
What a lovely block! I really love Maison de Garance. Lovely colors and prints!
I'm also a fan of Pom Pom De Paris - perfect for a very feminine quilt. Love your friendship block.
I definately favorite your La Belle Fleur. I love all the floral prints and lovely colors! Thank you for the chance to win!
Rural Jardin is my absolute favorite! Love the blues and aquas!! I do look forward to each of your collections and yes, I have purchased a bit of fabric from each line! Can't help it!! Love La Belle Fleur also!
Cheers, Colette
My favorite is Chateau Rouge. I am using the mini charm to make hexagon.
French General is my favorite line of fabrics. My favorite was Rural Jardin. I am a die hard red collector but it was that line that made me take a second look at the blues. I am so not a blue person and yet its your particular shades of blue that have drawn me in. I love them as much now as the reds. Go figure. Grandma Rita
Ruth Ann says: I vote for Rouenneries....so classic!
I love the Rural Jardin line the best so far, but I must say I have never met a French General fabric I didn't like.
Thanks for the block and the give away. I really liked Fa La La La
Definitely Rouenneries. Love the block.
I love Rural Jardin, I bought the fat quarter bundle and I use them sparingly in just about all my projects. I like the idea of the swatch book. Thanks for the patterns and chance at your give away.
Love your block...so happy that there are applique blocks. My favorite fabric is Petite Odile. the perfect fabric for a little girls quilt....the matching dolls quilt naturally. Vive La France and French General....
I like Lumiere de Noel and Maison de Garance. They have an interesting variety of prints included in the line. All your collections are wonderful and the distinct edging on the fabric is fun.
My favorite is always the new one -my pocketbook feels it, but I just love each and every one. My favorite so far tho is LaBelle Fleur. I also really enjoyed Rural Jardin, and I probably don't pronounce any of them correctly.
Your block realy does look like a tile - very unique and pretty.
They're all so pretty, but Lumiere de Noel is my current favorite.
Thank you for the opportunity to win!
I have been a fan of all of the lines, but I have to admit I have restrained myself from indulging, because once I start, I will never stop. Le Belle Fleur might be the one to break my resolve though! It has just the colors and feel that I want to create in the "new to me" house we just moved into, so I would have to say it is my favorite.
Oh, Chateau Rouge. Thanks for the giveaway. Blessings and smiles, Emilou
I'd have to say Rouenneries...loved the reds, pinks, beiges, birds....treated myself to a FQ bundle of that one!
Oh goodness...how to pick just one fabric line...okay, maybe La Belle Fleur. Love all the colors in this line.
You had me at Rouenneries. I have the charm packs, the layer cake and yardage, and can't bear to cut into them. Soon, I tell myself, soon...
Lumiere de Noel - I love the block too!
My favorite is Rouenneries. I love the colors. Thanks for the scrapbook pattern and giveaway.
I like the colors of Rural Jardin the best. Thanks for the giveaway.
My favorite is rural jardin. Thanks for the lovely chance!
My two favorites are Rouenneries and Rural Jardin. I love that kind of faded red in Rouenneries and there was a blue in Rural Jardin that just called out to me.
Chateau Rouge gets my vote! But, that said, I love all your lines. They are all great and have such a wonderful style! Thank you for the block and the chance to win!
I made a lovely log cabin quilt from Chateau Rouge...I love the blend of tans and reds.
I am found of Rouenneries! You are right, I am not sure how to pronounce it! So much for 2 years of French in HS...
Oh, how to choose...I love Rouenneries and Rouenneries Deux. Then again, there's Lumiere de Noel. Lovely, lovely fabrics. Thank you for the chance to win!
I always buy lots of French General each year and love all the lines. But there's something special about La Belle Fleur. My favorite colors are the faded reds in all the lines and the blues in La Belle Fleur.
I loved both Rouenneries and Pom Pom de Paris.
Without a doubt Rouenneries is my favorite,
It's hard to pick one, but I guess Rouenneries and Petite Ecole are my favorites in that order. Thank you!
Gorgeous block, I'm just so scared of curves. I have really liked the Pom Pom de Paris line.
I love your fabric, blocks and quilt pattern.
I have always loved the French General fabric lines. I first fell in love with Rouenneries. And no I don't know how to pronouce it ;-) Thanks for creating such beautiful fabric.
My favorite is Rural Jardin, at least, up to this point. Looking forward to seeing your new collection in the fall.
What ever you used for carpenter's wheel.
My favorite? Esprit de Noel. I love red. Thanks for the chance to win, Felicia
bfhamlin@bevcomm.net
I love fa la la la, I used it to make one of my first quilts.
Rouenneries (roonyeh ?) is my absolute favorite! I have my collection of it patiently waiting for me to turn it into a quilt for my bed, however, after looking at your website the other day and seeing all of your lovely fabrics, I am in love with them all. Your work takes my breath away. Lovely!
It's difficult to choose just one but...Petite Ecole would be a favorite of mine.
A trip to France? It would be a dream come true--quilting and France together. I'll get back to you about a reservation 2014.
Thanks for the opportunity to win some of your newest fabric collection.
I like Fa La La La! :) What fabulous fabrics! :)
My favorite is Lumiere de Noel ;)
thank you
ciao Maria
My favourite is probably Rouenneries, although it is very hard to choose just one!
A new friend popped around yesterday with a top made of Petite Odile so that's my current favourite. :) Merci
Rural Jardin is my favourite....love those blues...I am 80% through a quilt top and have run out of the blue...help needed...but really all the ranges have been lovely
love all French general fabric...and have stitched with many...
at the moment my favourite is Pom Pom de Paris...love to read your blog...
I like Pom Pom De Paris collection. thanks.
My favorite is Lumière de Noel. I used it in my christmas quilt. Annaleena
Pick just one, impossible, but I will say Rouenneries followed closely by every other range!
I made a christmas quilt of rural jardin. lia.vandenbrand@live.nl
I have fallen in love with many of the fabric collections, but Rural Jardin is still my most favourite.
Pom Pom de Paris!!
I love Pom Pom de Paris - it is gorgeous! Thanks for the fun giveaway :)
My favorites are Rouenneries and Rouenneries Deux and yes, I can't even begin to pronounce them!
When we visit our son again in LA, the first place that I will visit is your beautiful store!!!
Debbie V.
jdvanderpool@comcast.net
I don't have a favorite, they are all so pretty.
I just love the collection "Maison de Garance". Thanks for sharing your blog and the giveaways!
Love the fabric and the block. I made a quilt last year with the roeunneries line and called the quilt Romance. Thanks for a chance to win.
I love them all, but pick Rouenneries as the favorite! Thanks for the giveaway.
Oooh, la, la. Chateau Rouge is my favorite. La rouge est magnifique. The colors are all so pretty and remind me of my trip to France. Thanks for the chance to win.
Merci beaucoup...
My favorite is Rural Jardin. I like the extended days the shop is open now. I'll be in soon.
The colors of your new line La Belle Fleur are beautiful. Would go perfectly with my granddaughters room....PERFECT.
Thanks Jan
jmillerts@hotmail.com
Rural Jardin is amazing. I wish I could get on the list to go to France. It's been a dream to go since I took French in high school many, many moons ago. It's only been a dream and will have to stay a dream as I've had breast cancer and six weeks after that diagnosis I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I had to go on Social Security Disability and that certain limits what I am able to do. Thanks to the internet and television, I can still dream of these endeavors. Thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to participate and give us a great block, eye candy, and inspire us.
My favorite so far is Josephine.
I love all of your fabrics but my favorite so far is La Belle fleur. Thanks for sharing!
Stacy
I love them all so my favorite is always the newest! I think the swatch book is a great idea.
Rouenneries is my favorite. Only because, when I first saw it in my quilt shop, I just gasped and thought someone must have climbed in my head and designed a fabric from my dreams. Really. Blackbird Designs had designed a quilt years before and I had been waiting for just the right fabric. Rouenneries was it. I have loved all of your fabric since then. And I can't wait to make your block too!
Love the fabric and the Friendship block. Can't wait to make it.
Rural Jardin is so wonderful!
Rouenneries is my favorite, but I love all of the French General fabrics!
I loved Rural Jardin and still have some in my stash
I loved Rural Jardin and still have some in my stash
Rural Jardin. Probably because my husband brought it back from a business trip and it was the first line of your fabrics that I had seen.
I really enjoyed Maison de Garance. Thanks!
Rouenneries and Rouenneries Deux are my favourites. They always look perfect, whatever you make with them x
Your block is beautiful! I love the Maison de Garance the best. I used it to make some fun projects when it first came out.
Love them all but rounneries is mostly my fav. Thanks for the block pattern too.
Chris beresford
Rouenneries. It started my French General Obsession. I love the linen. So gorgeous. Thank you for the original floor tile pattern.
I love them all but Rouenneries is probably my favorite
My favorite is Fa La La La. Thanks for the chance to win!
What a beautiful block! I'm loving your La Belle Fleur! Thank you for the block and book instructions.
Thank you and Moda for an awesome giveaway and a chance to win.
usairdoll(at)gmail(dot)com
I have found something charming in every collection. I think La Belle
Fleur is the essence of French
General...but if you need something
to pull you out of the winter storm
and wrap you in spring then go to
Pom Pom de Paris.
I love Roueneries. Love that fabric
Love Rouenneries! had to laugh about the pronunciation comment, because our sewing group refers to it as "Renuzit" after so many attempts at saying it correctly!!! All of your fabrics are beautiful and I have quite a stash. Thanks for the chance!
I have used 3 or 4 different groups, have mixed groups, love them all but my favorite has to be Rouenneries Deux
I love them all !
Petite Ecole is my favorite - I bought all of the pre-cuts and plenty of yardage! terri (terrijco@yahoo.com)
I love them all, but if I had to pick just one it would be Rural Jardin.
pojeda50@yahoo.com
My favorite line is Maison de Garance. The reds and browns are beautiful!
dwkinney@cox.net
I love your Pom Pom De Paris collection. Made a quilt with it and sleep under it every night.
http://sewcookandtravel.blogspot.com/2012/03/pom-pom-de-paris-quilt-finish.html
I love many of your collections! Fa la la la la is one of my favourites.
Mary J.B.
Love all your collections -- Rural Jardin and Panier de Fleurs are faves for all the various blue pieces, but I love mixing among the collections. I love including the wovens -- stripes and plaids, which are a bit more challenging to find sometimes.
Thanks for sharing your creative fabrics with 'the world' -- it helps us make our worlds more beautiful!!
as you know i love all of the French general collections, and i am a hoarder of all the lines...i agree with so many ppl here in sthat it's hard to choose one favorite. i admit i have four project in various stages of "in progress", i need to get at least one finished! so, because i am dying to cut into la fleur i will have to say that is my "at the moment" favorite.
Fa La La La and Chateau Rouge are my favorites. Thanks
My favorite is Panier de Fleurs! I love the colors...
Thanks for the giveaway. I love all the collections! The first collection though to catch my eye was Lumiere de Noel - I was so inspired by the Tournesal Stripe that I bought yards and yards "just because."
My favorite is Chateau Rouge
Maison de Garance is my favorite though I love the first line very much too...
Well just for the sake of the other "children" I'll have to say Lumiere de Noel and Esprit de Noel. Love the fabric swatch book. Thanks.
I have been collecting Rouenneries wherever I can still find it for over a year now! I Think I finally have enough to make the quilt I am dreaming of. Merci!
I like rouenneries and yes, I know how to pronounce it but it's a french word and I'm french ... so it's easy ;) but my favorite is pompom de Paris !
La Belle Fleur! Such beautiful floral! I would LOVE to soon make a quilt for my mom, she loves the color combinations!
Kari - as usual your work is just superb! The colors you use just make my heart sing.... wonderful block. Thanks so much for you creative generosity!
Thank you so much for the block. I have to say that my favorite is Pom Pom de Paris. but I do have fabrics from many of the lines.
My favorite is Petite Odile!
Love the swatch book. Thank you for sharing. How do you choose a favorite...hmm...Rural Jardin, Rouenneries, Panier de Fleurs, La Belle Fleur...I don't have any in my stash, but from what I have seen these would have to be listed as my favorites.
Love the swatch book. Thank you for sharing. How do you choose a favorite...hmm...Rural Jardin, Rouenneries, Panier de Fleurs, La Belle Fleur...I don't have any in my stash, but from what I have seen these would have to be listed as my favorites.
So hard to choose ... but Rural Jardin is my very fav, and Lumier de Noel next ... I have it waiting for a quilt very soon! Thanks for the chance to win !!
Wow ... it's like asking to choose which is your favorite child ... you love them all the same and for very different reasons! I'd have to go with Rural Jardin ... I couldn't seem to get enough of that particular line of fabric. Thanks for the chance to win! Linda
Fa la la la took my breath away first time I saw it in my favorite LQS.
