Moda Friendship Quilt Along and Giveaway

Hello and Welcome to the Quilt Along!

All month you can follow Moda fabric designers and receive a pattern for a 9" quilt block which will eventually make up a beautiful friendship quilt!  Today is our day, as well as Lynn from Kansas City Troubles and Kate Spain...be sure to pop over and see my friends too!
Once I start quilting, I will try to make the Moda Friendship Quilt...because I love the idea of having Sofia's friends sign the middle of the blocks and then using them to make up a keepsake quilt for her.
Lissa Alexander sent us all a selection of blocks to choose from and I chose one that reminded me of old French tiles...big surprise there!

In fact, lately I have been dreaming of France and planning our next Chateau Getaway....it's something I do when I am looking for an excuse not to work...wait it is work - right!?  This summer, Amy Butler is joining us for two weeks at the chateau in the South of France, to inspire and teach us all about her sense of color!  If you would like to come along Summer 2014, please let us know - our waiting list has already begun!

Enough about France...back to the Quilt Along!

Using our new collection, La Belle Fleur, Jody helped me sew up our friendship block and then went a little crazy sewing up a few other fun ideas....  This new group of fabric is filled with the faded reds and pinks that were so often used in 19th century French prints, along with the warm blues and soft teals.

Here's a fun project using up the scraps from your block...a Scrap Book that you can fill with all of your favorite bits and pieces from each collection.  I'm big on scraps - in fact, I am thinking of making a fabric scrapbook for each collection I have designed for Moda....just to keep history of our 15 different collections!    Sandy Gervais told me to start this years ago, and I failed to listen to her...so now I have to do some catch up work!

And this is our new quilt pattern, La Belle Fleur...using a Carpenter Wheel pattern...reinterpreted by French General,  this pattern has two colorways - something for everyone!

We're giving away a bunch of precuts to some lucky winners, so please leave us a comment about your favorite fabric collection from French General over the past five years.  Here's a list of the collections to jog your memory:

Rouenneries (and do you know how to pronounce it!?)
Rural Jardin
Lumiere de Noel
Petite Ecole
Maison de Garance
Pom Pom de Paris
Fa La La La
Panier de Fleurs
Rouenneries Deux
Petite Odile
Chateau Rouge
Esprit de Noel
La Belle Fleur
Josephine  (coming Fall 2013)
Le Bouquet Francais (coming Spring 2014)

Thanks for playing along and be sure to join our networking site of creative friends at www.the-art-of-craft.com - we would love to see what you are up to!

You can also follow us on instagram at frenchgeneral...for a daily peek into what inspires us!

And have you heard the BIG news....French General is now open Tuesday through Saturday from 12-5pm!   Come see us next time you are in the neighborhood....

Bonne Chance!

Being a newbie quilter, finding your fabric and instantly falling in love, I havent stopped making blocks with your fabric. I love and still love the original rouenneries. The quilts are so gorgeous (well, they are all gorgeous quilts when using your fabric!!) and Love the petite odile--quilt too :) I love that you can mix and match pieces together and they all look so fabulous. I just got my la fluer fat qtr brick and I cant wait to dive in. I am excited for your new Christmas line and I am over the moon to see you have 2 new collections coming out in the next year!!!!!! Whooo Hoo!!!! Thank you so very much for inspiring so many of us with your fabric.

Merci! I like Esprit de Noel.

I like the soft hues of your fabrics but my favorite would be Rural Jardin. I love blue and have red and green in my home also. All of the soft colors coming out remind me of spring which it is not outside now. Several inches of snow fell last night. But we have warmer days to look forward to.

Jo Anne said...

My vote goes to Maison de Garance. I like all your fabrics.

Britt G. said...

I definitely love "Petite Ecole". I have slowly picked up fat quarters her and there to eventually make a quilt for my daughter. Love all the French General fabrics in general. Thanks for the chance for the giveaway.

My favorite is Maison de Garance, however, I haven't found a French General fabric yet that I don't like. I'm hoping I will be a lucky winner today :)
Thanks---I like your block also--anxious to make it.

I think my favorite has to be Rouenneries - I just flipped when I saw it in my LQS and had to buy lots! (Then I had to learn how to pronounce it.) When Pom Pom de Paris came out I was smitten again! Couldn't get enough of it. Love those pinks and yellows with a touch of French General Red! Love your designs, love your colors, love your style - it makes me smile!

jennyg said...

I love esprit de Noel one because it has all those lovely soft reds & 2 because my husbands name is Noel

Pamela said...

My favorite (so far!) is Lumiere de Noel. I honestly never liked the color red before seeing this collection. I thought red was too "in your face" and not soft or subtle enough for the kind of quilts I like to make. But you showed me that red can be lovely, lacy looking, and festive! I like your friendship block too!

Nancy said...

My favorite is still the original rouenneries. I am glad you have maintained that original feel and adding additional colors as each new line came out. Thanks for the opportunity to win.

French General is my favorite line of fabrics. My favorite was Rural Jardin. I am a die hard red collector but it was that line that made me take a second look at the blues. I have been a fan of all of the lines, but I have to admit I have restrained myself from indulging, because once I start, I will never stop. Le Belle Fleur might be the one to break my resolve though! Rural Jardin is amazing. I wish I could get on the list to go to France. It's been a dream to go since I took French in high school many, many moons ago. It's only been a dream and will have to stay a dream as I've had breast cancer and six weeks after that diagnosis I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I had to go on Social Security Disability and that certain limits what I am able to do. Thanks to the internet and television, I can still dream of these endeavors. Thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to participate and give us a great block, eye candy, and inspire us.

So hard to choose ... but Rural Jardin is my very fav, and Lumier de Noel next ... I have it waiting for a quilt very soon! Thanks for the chance to win !!

Wow ... it's like asking to choose which is your favorite child ... you love them all the same and for very different reasons! I'd have to go with Rural Jardin ... I couldn't seem to get enough of that particular line of fabric. Thanks for the chance to win! Linda

Fa la la la took my breath away first time I saw it in my favorite LQS.
