All month you can follow Moda fabric designers and receive a pattern for a 9" quilt block which will eventually make up a beautiful friendship quilt! Today is our day, as well as Lynn from Kansas City Troubles and Kate Spain...be sure to pop over and see my friends too!
Once I start quilting, I will try to make the Moda Friendship Quilt...because I love the idea of having Sofia's friends sign the middle of the blocks and then using them to make up a keepsake quilt for her.
Once I start quilting, I will try to make the Moda Friendship Quilt...because I love the idea of having Sofia's friends sign the middle of the blocks and then using them to make up a keepsake quilt for her.
Lissa Alexander sent us all a selection of blocks to choose from and I chose one that reminded me of old French tiles...big surprise there!
In fact, lately I have been dreaming of France and planning our next Chateau Getaway....it's something I do when I am looking for an excuse not to work...wait it is work - right!? This summer, Amy Butler is joining us for two weeks at the chateau in the South of France, to inspire and teach us all about her sense of color! If you would like to come along Summer 2014, please let us know - our waiting list has already begun!
Enough about France...back to the Quilt Along!
Using our new collection, La Belle Fleur, Jody helped me sew up our friendship block and then went a little crazy sewing up a few other fun ideas.... This new group of fabric is filled with the faded reds and pinks that were so often used in 19th century French prints, along with the warm blues and soft teals.
Here's a fun project using up the scraps from your block...a Scrap Book that you can fill with all of your favorite bits and pieces from each collection. I'm big on scraps - in fact, I am thinking of making a fabric scrapbook for each collection I have designed for Moda....just to keep history of our 15 different collections! Sandy Gervais told me to start this years ago, and I failed to listen to her...so now I have to do some catch up work!
And this is our new quilt pattern, La Belle Fleur...using a Carpenter Wheel pattern...reinterpreted by French General, this pattern has two colorways - something for everyone!
We're giving away a bunch of precuts to some lucky winners, so please leave us a comment about your favorite fabric collection from French General over the past five years. Here's a list of the collections to jog your memory:
Rouenneries (and do you know how to pronounce it!?)

Petite Ecole
Maison de Garance
Pom Pom de Paris
Fa La La La
Panier de Fleurs

Thanks for your block, it is gorgeous! I have bits and pieces of most of your ranges stashed away, but my favorite is Pom Pom de Paris, it is just so pretty!!
I loved Rural Jardin & sewed so many things with it. I always get comments as it goes perfectly with natural linen. Kym (kym@websitewise.com.au)
I think my favorite is still rouenneries the original. You can never repeat the feeling of a brand new, original never seen before fabric line and that's how I felt when rouenneries first came out. I made 2 wedding quilts that year with rouenneries.
My all-time favorite is Rouenneries. I love every quilt I've ever seen made from that fabric! Your block is great!
I love Maison de Garance
Rural Jardin was one of your first collection that I bought!
hildy(at)ebertzeder(dot)de
My favourite is lumière de noel. Just made a jellyrollrace quilt out of my precious jellyroll and it looks fantastic!
I love your block and I think a swatch book is a great idea!
My favourite line is Rouenneries!
My favorite line was Lumiere de Noel. I made a charm square tote bag for my girlfriend who loved the bag. It was a great Christmas present for her.
My favorite line was Lumiere de Noel. I made a charm square tote bag for my girlfriend who loved the bag. It was a great Christmas present for her.
My favourite is Rouenneries. thanks for the chance
I love Rouenneries and Maison de Garance, but then i love all things French - I am back learning French again; Merci pour la chance..
I love all the reds of Chateau Rouge, and even though I have blue days, I keep coming back to the reds.
Rouenneries ... rwa-ne-ree? I'd like to know! :o)
I have hoarded/collected most of your fabric lines, but I think my all time favorite is the Pom Pom de Paris. Pink and yellow are two colors I'd normally not gravitate towards, but I love them in quilts--after the blues and reds, of course.
Thanks for the chance!
Definitely Rouenneries! The 1st look at those wonderful warm reds and I was in love. Pronunciation-- not hard -- fun for the mouth and sweet to the ear!
wow this is really a beautiful block!! I love this fabrics. I would like to win some of the pom pom de paris.
Greetings from Munich/ Germany
Annette
I especially like Rural Jardin. The Christmas prints are lovely too.
OMG whenever you have a giveaway it keeps me up nights in anticipation of the big winner reveal!!! Your fabric is sooooo my favorite, and picking on is not easy but if I must it is Rouenneries and Rouenneries Deux all the way! :)
My favorite line would be Chateau Rouge. All of the reds are my favorite color. I collect many from your lines and they all blend beautifully. Thanks for the block, giveaway and free pattern
Oh... so many to choose from... I think my favorite is Fa La La La La fabric line especially the grey tone fabric with the rich creamy flowers. Although I do love the Chateau Rouge Soleil. Thank you for the excitement of the Friendship quilt along... this brightens the wintry blues of February. We are getting snow as I type...!
My favorite is Rural Jardin, I absolutely love the blues in it and how they combine with the reds. I have a beautiful quilt in my bedroom made out of it and I never get tired of looking at all the fabrics and enjoying their details.
Petite Ecole...thanks for the givaway
I love Rural Jardin!
Thanks for the giveaway!
Thanks for the patterns.Only one?The first one I bought was Rouenneries and then Maison de Garance ,Petite Odile. There are many favorites.Belle fleur caught my eye. Thanks for the chance!!
How lovely! Your block is very pretty. I have collected French General over the years, they all go together beautifully, but my favorite is Rural Jardin, with Pom Pom de Paris coming in a close second.
Of the many French General pieces in my stash, I'd choose the Maison de Garance section as my favorite. Love those tans with the reds!
My favorite is Chateau Rouge....but I am quite fond of Petit Odile too!
Rural Jardin would be my favorite. Thanks for the give away.
Your block is wonderful with the reds and blues... I like Le Belle Fleur a lot.
Thanks so much for the block and swatchbook patterns!!
I really liked Fa La La La...not just for Christmas!
Love your block! Actually, love everything FG. My favorite is still Rouenneries, but I just went broke tracking down and buying most of the Petite Ecole! I have bits and pieces of all the collections.
Thank you for the opportunity - I'd love to have more FG in my stash!
My favorite line is Maison de Garance. Thanks for the giveaway.
I love, love, love Maison de Garance. That collection really spoke to my heart.
All of your fabric is GREAT, but one of my favorites is Maison de Garance. Thanks for the block!
bevcalhoun@cox.net
I love the stripes, plaids and the beautiful colors of Rural Jardin. Love the block. Thanks for the chance.
Your block is lovely, although I have not done any round patterns as yet.
All your fabrics are fabulous and do love La Belle Fleur:)
Thank you:)
I love Pom Pom de Paris, so pretty. I can pronounce them all correctly too because I used to live in France many moons ago. Thanks for sharing the block and the giveaway.
ks(dot)eyles(at)yahoo(dot)co(dot)uk
Rouenneries is still my favorite. In fact, I'm still hoarding my last few fat quarters - saving them for only the most special of projects. And, no, I have no idea how to pronounce it!
My favorite so far is Petite Ecole!
Chateau Rouge is my favorite. Love the reds and neutrals. Thanks for sharing the patterns & the chance to win.
My favorite fabric is Rural Jardin. Thanks for the great giveaway!
I am partial to reds, so I love your Chateau Rouge. I can't wait to try it on your block. Thanks so much for the chance to win some of your beautiful fabric!
I have to go with La Belle Fleur as my absolute favorite but all of the collections are lovely.
Love them all, but Pom Pom de Paris is still my favorite.
Petite ecole is still a fav. All lovely!
Rural Jardin is my favorite because it was my introduction to French General and started the whole love affair1 Love the block and the fabrics--perfect harmony!
I just bought some Chateau Rouge mini charms and plan to use them with scraps from other collections to make a quilt. I love the antique reds and the way them mix with any other colors.
I love your block and have also loved all your fabric collections. I think Rouenneries is my favorite.
Petite Ecole has been one of my favorite lines...everything from quilts to kindle covers!
I think Rouenneries will allways be my favortie collection. So beautiful! Thanks for the giveaway!
Are you kidding, I love them all. Good luck to everyone, too excited about this block!!
Rural Jardin is my favorite
I can't pick just one, I love bits and pieces of each. The reds always catch my eye though. Thanks for the block and the chance at winning.
I'm so glad that I decided to the Moda Signature Quilt Along because I found your site. Love your things beautiful Marianne
Merci Beaucoup!! I would love to visit France and spend time with my French relatives there!! My favorite collection would be Rouenneries. Thanks!
micheletimms at gmail dot com
I worked at my LQS and yes I think I was the only one who knew how to pronounce Rouenneries. I love the new La Belle Fleur. The blue really makes it all pop.
My favorite is Chateau Rouge, I made a wall quilt with it went we redid our living room. It was the prefect way to bring out the bits of red in the new room and the perfect focal point. ;-> Toni Anne
I made the most beautiful place mats out of a couple pieces of Petit Odile...so it's my current favorite. Thansk for the chance to win.
My favorite is rural jardin. Thanks so much for the giveaway!
I am REALLY liking this block - and the fabric arrangement you chose are wonderful! "IF" I had to choose a favortie, which is so hard to do, I'd have to say Lumiere de Noel
My favourite would be Chateau Rouge. I really love working with reds.
It is really hard to pick which line I like the best. I have loved them all. If I have to pick one, I would go with Rouenneries Deux.
I am rather new to this consequently, Petite Odile and Chateau Rouge are the first French General fabric collections I have seen. I used fabrics from the collections to make fabric pockets that I decorated with counted cross stitch design. The fabric designs go extremely with my cross stitch designs and the fabric feels so very luxurious.
I love all your fabrics but Fa La La La is my favorite! Thanks for the give away.
I think I would have to go with Chateau Rogue! It's all beautiful but I do love the reds in this collection!
I think rural jardin is my favorite but I pretty much love everything in the French general line! And I think your block is my favourite one so far :) thank you!
Love them all but I would pick Maison de Garance. THanks for the block and the giveaway.
Beautiful block! French General is a major favorite designer for me. Love you, and my fave is probably Rouenneries, so glad you came out with some of the oldies in addition to all the beautiful new ones. Excuse me while I go wipe the drool off my face:)
Belle Fleur is definitely my favorite, but I love them all.
Thanks for the chance to win.
My favorite collection is Pom Pom de Paris. I have a fat quarter bundle of it that I pet on a daily basis!
I love your fabrics. Rural Jardin is particularly beautiful, I think.
I love Pom Pom de Paris! But, they're all beautiful.
Your choice is the best for the Friendship quiltalong. Thank you for the patterns and the scrapbook idea. My favorite would be Fa La La La. I guess it just depends on your mood. Thank you for the chance to become a lucky winner of those precuts.

I am very fond of the Chateau Rouge collection because of the reds. I wasn't so much a red person (blue was my go to) until I saw these reds. Now I can't get enough reds like these! Thanks for sharing.
My first love affair was Rural Jardin - moved on to Lumière de noel and lastly my love has been with Rouenneries. I love French General - the colors are always amazing. Thanks for this wonderful opportunity. Judy C in NC
This quilt along if fun. I love your fabric lines. I use Rouenneries in my very first completed quilt top. I have used fabrics from some of your other lines for smaller projects, I am always drawn to it at my favorite shops.
Panier de Fleurs - the colors go so well in my home. Rose W.
What an interesting block. Thank you. Last year I made a quilt using Maison de Garance and it's still on the back of my couch. Love it!
Chateau Rogue of course!! Thanks for sharing!!
French General has some beautiful fabric! Thanks for sharing the block tutorial.
French general is beautiful!
I am looking forward to making my friendship quilt....thanks for your block!
I would have to say - Rouenneries (I can pronounce it, spent a summer in Cahors decades ago!) - would be my favorite as it opened up your world to me...I can't get enough of it! Thank you!
I love the gray prints from Petite Ecole! Your new Carpenters Wheel pattern is amazing - that block has been on my Must-Make list for awhile, but I love you version! Thanks for the chance to win!
Why do you make this so hard- I love them all never had a favorite just have him all in stash. I guess if I have to I would say french general and rounaries. Thanks for the chance to win the pre-cuts looking forward to your new lines thanks again
My favorites are the wovens from Rouenneries and the Petite Ecole line. Thanks for a lovely giveaway and thanks to Moda for the QAL.
What a beautiful block. Boy, choosing a favorite is nearly impossible - they are all so special. If I have to pick, I would say Rouenneries. I am coveting a charm pack of it!
Rouenneries still has my heart.
I am not sure of the name if the line but I love a quilt I made with a fat eighth kit in a chevron--backed with Fig Tree Snuggle, it is great. I also am collecting (fabric and a block of time) to mak one with Rouenneries
I still think my favorite is the Rural Jardin but all your shades and colors are so beautiful. I love the scrap book idea, it would make a beautiful baby book too for a baby to look through at all those colors and prints.
I love French General fabric and have many of them, I think somewhere in the 40s, but Rural Jardin Remains my favorite. Thanks for the give away and the ideas.
My favorite French General lines are Rouenneries and Maison de Garance.
My favorite is Chateau Rouge.
Thanks for the chance to win. Love the sample book with fabric swatches.
Shawn
Rural Jardin and La Petite Ecole...truthfully, anything French General. I have made at least 2 quilts and numerous pillows from FG and love each one. Lisa in Texas
I'm new to Quilting and need look no further than La Belle Fleur. The reds and greens in your new pattern are wonderful. Thank you.
Thank you for the block, I love the half circle concept. My favorite line is FA LA LA La
I have enjoyed all of the different fabric lines that you have designed! Some of my past favourites have been Lumiere de Noel & Maison de Garance along with Rouenneries Deux. I love how all the different lines have that sense of French whimsy - such lovely fabric and "sew" many projects that I must make or complete!! :)
Chateau Rouge for sure! I am redecorating my kitchen and trying to figure out how to get a quilt in there somehow!
thanks for sharing the pattern. I love all your lines but I did like Fa la la.
I liked seeing the whole list of your fabric lines...I have made quilts from 5 of the lines thus far, and I just bought La Belle Fleur for my next quilt. If I could only quilt faster, I could have used them all, because I do love them all. I would be thrilled with some more La Belle Fleur, so I could make some accessories to go with this current quilt. Thanks for your inspiration. soardkg@fuse.net
I like pom pom de paris!
missysaprons@gmail.com
Your fabric line is one of my favorites. It is hard to pick just one. :( They are all so elegant. But in a warm way. So if I had to pick one- Chateau Rouge.
Love the La Belle Fleur line! It's beautiful.
I've always love Rural Jardin--I have a bundle that I just can;t take apart because it's so pretty! Thanks for the gorgeous block!
I've made several quilts for granddaughters using Chateau Rouge. I love every collection and it would be impossible to chose just one.
Fa La La La is my most favorite fabric line of yours; however it wasn't an easy choice because I adore al of your fabric lines. Beautiful!!!
While all your fabrics are great, I love rouennieries.
My favorie collection is whichever one I'm using at the moment, but my favorite color in the whole world is French General "Red". Everyone knows exactly what I'm talking about when I use that term.
And what a wonderful block!
my absolute favourite of all your lines was Rural Jardin. unfortunately, it came out just as I learnt to sew so I pretty much missed it! I did manage to get my hands on Petite Ecole and I love that line too.
My favorite is Rural Jardin, maybe :) So many great ones to choose from it's a tough decision. Thanks for the chance to win.
Beautiful fabrics, and my favorite is Fa la la la. I made a wonderful quilt for a friend out of this line. Thanks for a chance.
Chateau Rouge for me. Ah, to be back in France. Thanks for the wonderful inspiration over the years!
You are TOO funni! Just choose one?! Very hard to do but if I must I'll say: Petite Odile, followed by a close 2nd of: Chateau Rouge -- I love all your fabrics patterns notions!! Thanks for the nice give-a-way and super block! Ani in NC
Of course they are all fabulous, but the first quilt I ever made was with Rouenneries, so it will always be my favourite one.
Very hard to choose because they are all so beautiful! Rural Jardin maybe. Love all those reds and all the French General that has been designed. Great Job with a lovely line of fabric. Would be so nice to win some of that fabric line.
I like the new La Belle Fleur. The Rural Jardin was great too. Trina
I love them all! I own them all--can we say I'm just a bit obsessive about French General? But my very favorite is Maison de Garance for its rich warmth. Second favorite Lumiere de Noel--clean and beautiful! Dying for a sneak peek at the two new lines!
I loved Rouenneries because of it's newness. Totally new idea for quilting fabric and I was excited! Maison de Garance was one of my favorites too though. Beautiful warm colors and great prints. Love them!
All your lines are inspiring!
Rural Jardin has been my favorite...the colors and designs in that line are lovely and calming.
No question, Rouenneries was my favorite. No, maybe Rural Jardin... I just know I love all your collections!
What a great block - it does look like a tile. My favorite collection is Rouenneries Deux.
Love your fabrics! And would love to win some Pom Pom de Paris! Thank you!
I went ga-ga over Rouenneries when I first saw it, but then I fell in love everytime a new line came out!! I love the reds!!! Keep up the good work. I can hardly wait to see the new lines. Thanks for the unique block!
I love your new line La Belle Fleur. But they are all so lovely!
I had to go and look since I have not seen your fabric and ooooooohh what beautiful fabrics, I love the rural jardin. Will you sell it again? I want I want I want.... wonderful... me being a newbie I get all execited when I see something new....
They're all lovely - rural jardin or rouenneries catch my eye. And the fabric swatch book is a great idea! Merci.
My favorite is Petite Ecole. So charming!
I have bits and pieces of all or most of your lines, but I think Maison de Garance is my favorite. SOOOOOOOO pretty!
Love the block!
I love Rural Jardin, but I also like Rouenneries.
Because I love Christmas I always loved the Lumiere de Noel

Now that is a challenge. I love all thing French General. I have had Lumiere de Noel, Petit Odile. I have to say however Pom Pom de Paris must be a favorite because I am currently hoarding several different precuts. I cannot bring myself to use them. I just enjoy admiring them from afar.
La Belle Fleur is my favorite. Your friendship block is gorgeous.
I absolutely adore Rouenneries! I've made a wallhanging, placemats, and a quilt with that line. Love the tile-inspired block you've posted. Thanks!
My favorite is Chateau Rouge. Thanks! Lana
My favorite is Maison de Garance. Thank you!!!
My favorite fabric line has been the Petite Odile...I LOVED working with those hues of the gray, blue and red.
My favorite is Chateau Rouge! Thanks!
I would have to say that Rouenneries Deux is my favorite collection since it was the first one I "discovered" and I used it to make a quilted bag to carry to my quilting classes.
I love them all but if I have to choose a favorite, it would be La Belle Fleur!! Thank you for the block!
Ellen
You are a gem to include the instructions for making the fabric swatch book! I saw this on the you tube video. Thank you! I have a collection of rural jardin still sitting pretty on a shelf. Have not been able to slice into it yet. All in time!
oohhh favorites...I have sooo many :) LOVE your fabrics !!! la belle fleur is my current favorite cause I'm working with it at the moment but I am also a huge fan of chateau rouge and Petite Odile and I cannot even wait for Josephine :)
Pom Pom de Paris is my favorite. I love the pink and yellow prints together. Don't get me wrong though I love all the reds too but am partial to the pink and yellow. So cheerful.
All of your collections are beautiful. My favorite would be Maison de Garance.
I do not think I have bought French General before but my best friend has a stack for a quilt. I love this new one, I will be looking for it!
I really like Chateau Rouge but I must say I have a lot of FG fabrics beyond that line. I just love it in general! Thank you for the chance to win. Love your patterns too.
Mary
Panier de Fleurs is my favorite, but love them all!!
I love Pom Pom de Paris. I am loving this quilt along and seeing everyone's blocks.
I have loved all your fabrics starting with Rouenneries.
So I confess that I was introduced to your designs only recently with Rouenneries. It has the perfect shades of red. Since I didn't know the other line, I googled. Perhaps not wise, because blue being my favorite color I loved Rual Jardin and now it is not readily available. Perhaps not such a bad thing since I already have more fabric and projects than I can get to in a year. =)
My favourite was the Rural Jardin collection. The lovely blues remind me of summer days in France.
The original Rouenneries is still my favorite. And yes, I can pronounce it. Spelling it is another story! LOL
I love them all, but I think my favorite has to be La Belle Fleur. Thanks for the chance to win!
caribousmom (at) gmail (dot) com
My favorite was Chateau Rouge! Thank you so much for the chance at the giveaway!
My favorite line was the first, Rounnieres (pronounced ruin air ?)I just love it and have bits of it in many projects as well as a quilt made from it. Love, love, love your sense of color.
Chateau Rouge!
I'm going to say Chateau Rouge. Some of its fabrics were very useful to me in reproducing a vintage British quilt. I was very happy to find them! Keep putting out your designs!
I love Chateau Rouge. I have a quilt kit that uses that line and it is beautiful! It will look even better when I sew it together too!
I don't know that I can pick just one. I have bought at least a little of all your collections. Actually, I have bought A LOT of most of your collections. Love the new La Belle Fleur.
My favorite is Rural Jardin. I made several projects with it and I am hoading some for the future and combining it with other collections.
I love them all but would have to say Rouennieres is my favorite. Thank you!
Pom Pom de Paris! LOVE!
My favourite is Chateau Rouge - I have some yardage in my stash that I love. I must admit that I have liked them all, but the Chateau Rouge camehome with me.
Love your block and swatch book, thank you so much! It's difficult to pick a favorite collection as they are all wonderful but Chateau Rouge is at the top of my list! Thanks again!
I love Le Petite Ecole the best mostly because of the letters and vintage feel. Thanks for the chance! And thanks for the swatch book and block pattern too!
I have loved your fabrics since the first line came out. Of course La Belle is my fave right now, but Pom Pom de Paris has a special place with all it's romance and toile! Love your block and thanks so much for your offer.
This block will be my first time doing semi circle, wish me luck! and I really loved working with Rouenneries.
It's hard to choose a "favorite" --- all of them have their own personality, but similar characteristics. I guess, my favorite, if I have to decide, is La Belle Fleur. Thank you for the chance.
All are beautiful but if I have to choose one it would be La Belle Fleur. Thank you for the chance to win.
I think my favorite is Pom Pom De Paris because of the yellow. and also, the font on the packaging for Moda is adorable. I'm a sucker for a great font.
La Belle Fleur, I just love all of them, though...it's so hard to choose! pbstrand@msn.com
I have a quilt Kit that is using Rural Jardin that i have to do.I just have a hard time to cut into these beautiful fabrics. I also have a few pieces of Rouenneries that I love.
My favorite French General Collection is always the latest one.
So hard to choose ONE but I will go with Chateau Rouge. :)
Hard to to pick a favorite--I love the all--but La Belle Fleur is one that draws me.
It would be hard to pick just one, I've purchased several from your list, but Pom Pom de Paris was slight different from your usual choices, so I think I'll go with that one!
I just love everything French General :) I am a bit of a hoarder of your fabric and recently bought another bundle of chateau rouge because I knew I was going to use up my bundle for my project! My goal is to have my bedroom done up in everything French General :)
Oh, what not to love about all your fabric! I purchased 'yardage' of Rouenneries and made the quilt from your pattern and added various items as a memento quilt. And fortunately I am still sewing with my stack of it. I also love Petite Ecole. Very hard not to like it all. And I love your block for this Quilt Along.
All are beautiful but if I have to choose one it would be La Belle Fleur. Thank you for the chance to win.
I am in love with the fabric and your block! Another project on my "to-do list!"
Wow all my wonderful colors! I go with Pom Pom de Paris.
I love the whole French General line. Thanks for being a part of the Friendship Block Blog Hop.

I love each one as it is released! I think Rural Jardin was the first one that caught my eye.
