Moda LOVE Blog Tour

Welcome to the LOVE tour!  This is Moda's annual September blog hop featuring all of their designers and today is the French General day!

We are excited to launch our upcoming collection, Rue Indienne... in stores any day now!  Here is a sneak peek at our collection of patterns for Rue Indienne, designed and sewn by our fabulous quilting team, including Penny, Cheryl, Deb and Kim...

When did you fall in LOVE with quilting/ textiles?

I fell in love with textiles first!  Twenty years ago, I was traveling in the South of France and started seeing the linen sheets and old linen floral curtain panels at the flea markets.  There were piles of old fabric - and I started buying as much as I could carry back to the car. I had no idea that textiles would change my life forever and lead me down a path of collecting 18th and 19th century fabric that would eventually become the basis for our fabric collection with Moda.

Last year I worked on Michele Muska's new book, Quilting the New Classics, and was determined to learn to quilt!  I started with a sampler quilt but got hung up on the flying geese block!  Then I tried a jelly roll quilt and found that I could piece with my eyes closed...well almost!  I haven't quilted anything since but I assure you, I have a garage full of fabric and someday, someday, I will be quilting in my spare time!

 What fuels you to create?

Besides inventing new Jelly Belly combinations, (which is the fastest way to make me feel sick - but I still love it!) my creativity is fueled by color, texture and anything old and used.  When I feel totally depleted and lacking of any inspiration, I find myself going back to my collection of old quilts and fabric and I always seem to find something I had missed...a small repair or stitched initials or an additional fabric hidden under an old quilt...it's these little details that feed me and inspire me.

What is the best part of your design process?

The best part of my design process is working with the people I work with...my husband JZ, the great staff at FG, the design team at Moda and the friends I have made in the quilting industry.  I never imagined I would become part of such a creative group...and I love it!

I LOVE the color......

I think we all know my favorite color...it starts with an R and ends with a D!

When I teach classes or workshops, I LOVE.....

Learning something new from my students!  I have taught our Indigo Workshop dozens of times, but I still love it when a student comes up with a new design technique or dyes a fabric that makes the indigo look totally modern and fresh...there is always something new to learn and teaching workshops is the best way to learn!

This project features a layer cake, charm pack or mini charm, but what is your all time favorite moda precut?

My all time favorite precut is the mini charm!  We are working on our upcoming 2015 Mini Charm Monthly Club which will feature a mini charm and a monthly project...thanks to one of my favorite quilters and FG employee, Amy!  More details to come in December!

Here is the pattern for the layer cake quilt from Moda:
http://www.unitednotions.com/Moda-Love-Layer-Cake-Quilt.pdf

And finally....leave us a note about what you LOVE about quilting...we will pick a handful of winners and send out some of our new Rue Indienne precuts!  Merci!

I love the hopefulness of imagining a new quilt whatever the size. Even when I buy fabric with a specific purpose in mind, it may not end up in that project. Even in my stash, there's hope.

I absolutely love the fabrics and there are so many wonderful choices these days from such talented designers! It can be hard to choose!

Oh my gosh, I love everything about quilting. I guess my least favorite part of quilting is when you get 3/4 the way through a quilt and you want to be done because you've already started planning the next quilt. It's sometimes hard to keep the drive to finish the first quilt, when there is a beguiling new quilt just waiting for you.

Moda Jelly Rolls just seems to work for me. It is so easy to work with and the cutting is just the right size for me. The feeling you get when you start with a piece of fabric and the ending result is what you have made yourself. It is quite the accomplishment. Thank you for being a part of the Moda Love Blog Hop and giving all of us the chance to become a Moda Winner. Yes, I also adore the color of Red myself. It is such a bold and striking color.

My favorite precut is the fat quarter, I always feel I'll have a little left over. You never know if you'll make a mistake and need it. My favorite part of quilting is giving them away. I also love going to quilt shops, most of the time everyone is so friendly and helpful, it's like walking in to room full of new to you friends. ;->

VickiT said...

What I love most about quilting is the challenge in completing a quilt I am proud of. I am a perfectionist so that can really drive me crazy in trying to make THE perfect quilt. I realize there are probably very few perfect quilts and I'm fairly sure mine are not going to be in that category, so each quilt is also teaching me to let go of the perfectionist part of me so I can just have fun. Fun and relaxation is why I decided to learn to quilt in the first place. Well, that and to have a reason to collect gorgeous fabrics. LOL

And your new fabric collection, Rue Indienne looks just gorgeous.

I can't wait to see more about this new club you wrote about. I recently purchased a lot of mini charms.

I'm a fabric/textile lover. When I am working with fabric, I have a lot of energy and focus. Diane Ackerman calls it Deep Play:

Children are of course drawn to deep play--those activities that catapult them into an altered state of consciousness, where all their senses are engaged and for that moment life is timeless and fully absorbing. But few adults are conscious of how this form of deep play continues throughout adulthood.

I love seeing something I designed on paper turn out even better than I had imagined it would be. I love fabric and color and making quilts - the whole process from designing on through to sewing on the label.

What I love about quilting is working with the beautiful fabrics. After the whole process is finished what I love most is seeing my children sleeping under quilts I have made for them.

The thing I love best about quilting is all the great life-long friends I've made. I started quilting one day a week with two friends when our kids started school. That was nearly 35 years ago and we're still quilting together!

I love the fabric. I pat and brush it as if it were a live pet. Sometimes I don't even have to make a quilt out of it, especially if it's French General. I love just owning the beautiful colorful texture!

I love the fabric! Nothing brightens my day like a trip to the quilt store. I need fabric like I need food to eat!

I love choosing fabric and then getting a bundle of fabrics to admire before cutting into them. cutting it all apart and then sewing it back together into something entirely different - LOVE IT!

I love quilting - the quest to cut up perfectly lovely fabric in the attempt to create something even more beautiful. Totally counter intuitive but addictive!

I love pulling different fabrics together in creative ways--the design and color aspects are my favorites.

My favourite part of quilting is starting a new project - maybe that's why I don't finish many quilts. I have at least 20 tops ready to quilt, but then I'd have to clean up my workspace to organize the quilting.

I love looking at a new fabric and having my mind begin sorting through the possibilities. When a fabric grabs my attention I generally immediately see it as a quilt.

I love choosing the fabrics for the quilt, sewing two parts together and wishing that the seams matched… I love every step of quilting (except basting, to be honest).

Hi :-) I love almost everything about quilting - but I especially love - a) dreaming of it before it is created... and b) putting on the label at the end so I know it's finished!!

I've been fondling all sorts of fabrics since I was a little girl shopping with my mother and grandmother - I love gathering differents fabrics together and creating something for myself or someone I love. I love every step of the process - and the icing on the cake is all the wonderful quilters I know and learn from.

I will admit to loving anything I can do at the sewing machine! Quilting. Regular sewing. Well, not mending so much!

Love that blue quilt posted here. The red accents really pop!

LOVE, LOVE ,LOVE ALL FRENCH GENERALS! I am your biggest fan! The excitement that pours all over you when you just think of starting a new quilt! Or when your in the middle of gardening and a light bulb goes off and the idea overwhelms you the to the point that you have to stop everything and go write it down till you can stitch it up!! Going to town and getting that precious bundle of fabric and savoring it and feeling it and dreaming over it... Especially MODAS, because they feel all soft and silky...

I love quilting because it connects me to past generations of my family who have shared their knowledge and love of quilting with me. It is one of the few hobbies that is anchored in past traditions, but can be made entirely fresh using beautiful fabrics made today.

My favorite color is RED too, and I love your new line of fabric!! What I love about quilting is the whole process. The cutting, the magic of putting it all together and then ending up with a cozy, personal quilt and makes me happy, or someone else happy.

What I love about quilting is playing with beautiful fabrics and designs. I love the stories behind the quilt blocks and the unique names they were given. And I love to pick up and shake out my finished quilt for the first time; I love the feel and drape.
